Elementalist Basics
In an ongoing effort to make these forums as useful as possible, we've decided to re-vamp our profession guides and knowledge bases.
In addition to needed help with our profession overviews, we're looking to create a build FAQ in this forum for new users. This should outline the common builds in a class, what works, what doesn't, and generally just go over the material that everyone should know before diving into the forum proper. For this, we need your help.
As the title suggests, this thread is for the basics of the Elementalist, and the various ways to play one. To flesh this out, we need generic Elementalist builds of all types, as well as class specific questions about skill interactions. While I'm going to try and lay out a skeleton myself, any help fleshing out the content would be appreciated. So if you have a question about how the Elementalist works, know of a common build that everyone should be familar with, or have any suggestions for our profession overviews, please post them here.

A Rezbot ele starts and ends with Glyph of Sacrifice and Restore Life. Probably want Vengeance in there, too.
Also, you could go Elementalist/Ranger for your "one hit" kill machine and pick up Serpent's Quickness instead of Power Drain.

I have a Water build here:
http://paladins.viperhosting.net/for...topic.php?t=76
It might need some tweaking, though.
You could argue 4 + rune is enough in Air as it is, but the points in Illusion are pretty moot anyway.

Well, I thought up a couple of air builds, each using a different elite, although I can't vouch for them.
air 11, +1
storage 10
earth 10
thunderclap
lightning orb
" strike
" javelin
enervating charge
Air attunement
Aura of restoration
Aftershock
This one failed, because 1) energy disappears real quick when casting spells (note, I said casting. just attacking the guy with a lightning rod works well to annoy the hell out of 'em.) And I simply could not get aftershock of quickly enough.
2.
air 12, +1
storage 12
Glimmering mark
orb,javelin, strike,
enervating charge
air attunement
aura of restoration
conjure lightning
this one worked better, and didn't need to bring in a defensive spell, either, because everyone trying to hit me would miss 90% of the time for the duration of mark. Conjure lightning gave me good dmg for my wand, bring it to 11-22 +13+20%, so yeah. Other spells just worked for damage and the two other enchantments kept me going. Watching two warriors trying to wale on you is entertaining.
BTW, I only pvped, hence the sucky attribute bonuses.

Hmm, everyone's ignoring the Geomancer
Here's a build I run occasionally, but I don't play eles much.
Earth 12+4
Energy Storage 10+1
Air 8+1
Have a sword with +enchant duration on your weapon swap.
Elemental Attunement
Earth Attunement
Enervating Charge
Stoning
Aftershock
Obsidian Flame
Armor of Earth
Ward Against Melee
If you want more knockdown, run a mes secondary and arcane echo stoning, probably swapping out Aftershock.

I liked this build so much that i made a template of it, its originally a word document with links and everything And i even gave it a name

Soul Feast
Resurrection Signet / Immolate
Attributes
Death Magic 7
Fire Magic 13
Energy Storage 10
Runes
Minor/Major/Mastery Fire Magic Runes
Minor/Major/Mastery Vigor
Strong features
The incredible amount of damage this guy can do and take on the contrary, you keep healing yourself while you cast spells and you can restore your hp from the corpses. And best of all the ability to deal high damage close and far simultaneously.
Weak features
It gets pretty weak against undead since they don’t leave corpses so you can’t heal yourself well but if a monk is in the team that problem is pretty much gone.
Summary
Its a really good all around class and with the pyromancer gear you get low damage from monsters casting fire spells but the cold damage defence gets pretty weak alltho you deal lots of damage to them so the battle is over pretty quickly.

My Elementalist/Necro build:
Energy Storage: 11
Fire Magic: 12 + Fire Eye
Blood Magic: 6
Fire Attunement
Flare
Fire Storm
Fireball
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Inferno
Vampiric Touch
Shadow Strike
This is a PvE build. I have not played PvP and have no idea how this build would fair in competition.
The PvE strategy is based on a combination of ranged attacks and point blank area of effect (PBAOE).
For groups that are made up of melee attackers, begin attack with Flare until they have fixed on their target, hopefully the team's tank. Next attack is Fire Storm. Timing is essential with Fire Storm. If your selected target is near death, you will waste it. Choose wisely and unleash. Select the strongest remaining melee attacker, hopefully in the very center of the action, use Shadow Strike, followed immediately by Fireball. Attack a remaining foe with Vampiric Touch. This will take you into the midst of a group that should be significantly weakened. Finish them off with Inferno and few Flares as necessary.
For groups that are supported by casters or healers, choose the caster/healer and hit immediately with Fire Storm. Fire Storm should always be your first attack, providing surprise and good damage against most caster/healers. At lower levels (such as Crawl healers and Charr Martyrs) you may not have sufficient damage to take them out. Follow with Flare to finish them off. Melee attackers will have attacked your Monk. Use Vampiric Touch to take you into their midst. Blast with Inferno, followed by Flare at lower levels, and Fireball and Shadow Strike at higher levels.
While these strategies will work fine against such attackers as Centaurs and Skeleton Warriors and Archers, big mobs of ranged attackers such Spiders or Fire Imps require more caution.
And as soon as the game is released , I'll remember what that is!

I tried that vampiric touch but you have to be really close to the enemy to gain the hp but with the soul feast you gain the hp from the corpses and it has a fast casting time and reload time so you can do it while running away.

I'm not so sure if you'd qualify this as basic, but this was my build for the last April BWE. Read up on the skills and you'd find this is a very nice build.

My RP Elem is an Elem/Ranger. Does anyone have any decent Elem/Ranger builds that will work good in PvP? I'm thinking Air and I'm not sure on the Ranger stuff, probably going to use magic rather than a bow for damage output.

I'm going with a Elem/Monk build with fire / smiting spells and stats. I'm hoping I get high damage output. What do you think?

why are there no builds with two lines of elements, ex. points in energy storage, air, and fire?

I imagine you would just end up with a mediocre character at best if you did that.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of earth spells that work well with air.
